Any UK accountants gained a U.S. H1B Visa?

Hi all, I was wondering if any of you have gone from UK to US on a H1B visa?
It is somethings I have been considering for a while but have heard so many stories about how hard it is.
Basically I am a part qualified accountant with 6 years experience working in corporate and public finance. I want to finish my ACCA (chartered accountancy) qualification in the UK which will take me approx 2 years and then want to experience life in another country. I have always wanted to work in the US, preferably California.
Are any of you accountants that have taken this route?
Is it hard to find a company to sponsor you?
How long did it take for the process to go through?

To work in the U.S you would need a U.S. company to sponsor you. With the United States in a deep recession, and roughly 1 in 11 Americans out of work getting a work visa will be nearly impossible.

California is one of the hardest hit states. With the collapse of the housing market, financial markets and bank closings there is already a glut of unemployed American accountants in California looking for jobs.
